New Trail for Kingdom Enduro – Freefall.

Our rather creative route finder/ trail groomer: Rene Damseaux was super excited. He had just come back from a long day in the mountains with Tumelo (his trail building side kick) even more energetic than usual. “Let’s go check ride freefall!” he said. Now freefall to me, was a rather unridable hard enduro (motorbike enduro) route used as the gold finish for the Roof of Africa a few years back. I considered this unrideable. I was in for a rather pleasant surprise.

Thanks to a lift to the top we were at the trailhead rather swiftly with enough light to spare for 2 runs.

An off camber knarly rock garden sets you off with a few uphill punches followed by a twisty drop into a 200 odd meter rock garden with plenty a baby head sized rock rolling around. You exit this with a rad rock roll in to the middle section.

The middle

After the rock roll Rene has carved a sensational twisty loamy trail through the trees with the odd pedal punch to keep the lungs and legs occupied. Great use of the terrain here sees an overwhelming flow through the trees.

The bottom

The trail opens up a bit and you hit some speed at last with the odd rock garden to send before dropping in to a sandy donga. A rather unique baby grand canyon to navigate through to the final little unnecessary sprint to the rivers edge.

All in all- physical, tech, loose, tight, open- Freefall has it all. Top time down here I’d say around 5min 30 sec for a pro. We shall see come March next year.

Much trail love,
